I understand the experience people would have doing this would depend heavily on the friends they allow to become tenants, so are people open to this idea? Or would they rather not risk ruining a friendship due to finance/finding out they’re a bad tenant?

I think I’d like to do this but I’d want to hear a bit more from people who have rented to friends without issues.

Depends on how close you are with the friend. The worst situations are when the tenant and property owner are more than just acquaintances but not best friends either, or when the owner doesn’t know the friend as well as they think they do and are surprised/shocked when the first inspection happens.

If you want to do this, make sure you are clear with your boundaries and that you would rent to them even if they weren’t your friend.
